Türk Traktör, one of the leading manufacturers in Turkey, started its industrial life in 1954 and has become one of the most important enterprises in the country with exports to more than 130 countries primarily American continent, exhibiting an ever-growing business trend over the decades. Türk Traktör Ankara Factory is located on a total area of 257,325 square meters, including open and closed sections. Türk Traktör Erenler Factory has an open area of 222,110 square meters and a closed area of 68,613 square meters. The production capacity of the two factories is 50,000 tractors per year.
In order to stay resilient during the pandemic and comply with the new regulations of doing business, all businesses have to address the problem of how they can protect their workforce. Due to the increased risk of transmission after reaching a certain distance between people, there is a need to control it, record it and put in place a warning mechanism within their facilities. Also, having any COVID-19 case confirmed within the workforce could mean up to 2 months of downtime.

IoT Solution to Support Traditional Social Distancing and Contact Tracing Methods
Since Türk Traktör employs a large workforce in their facilities, tracking their compliance to social distancing using manual methods would be too time consuming and prone to error. For this reason, Türk Traktör sought a digital, data-driven solution to protect the health of its employees and to ensure the continuity of their production.
In collaboration with MESS (Turkish Employers’ Association of Metal Industries), Boni Global developed an IoT solution that allows for distance tracking and monitoring compliance and violations through a management panel. Employees and visitors can be assigned anonymous ID tags and wearable devices. The devices activate when they are in risky close proximity to another device and communicate with signals using Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) technology, which allows for interactions to be monitored on the management panel without tracking the location of the user. The users are notified through their wearable devices with an auditory and visual warning sign when they initially break social distance. If a COVID-19 case is confirmed in the workplace, the management can track every social interaction of that employee to see who else is at risk and take precautions.
IoT Safety Solution for The Pandemic and Beyond
Türk Traktör started Safe Steps MVP tests in July and the tests lasted for 2 months. As a result of the tests, it was seen that Safe Steps met all the promised features and the installation phase was started. Safe Steps application has been implemented 2500 IoT kits for employees at Türk Traktör’s Ankara, Erenler and Akyurt locations. Thanks to Safe Steps, the spread of viruses is prevented at Türk Traktör facilities, while employees and their relatives are protected against the risk of contamination and production is not interrupted.
Safe Steps aims to meet on common ground with the zero occupational accident philosophy of Türk Traktör. In line with this philosophy, Boni Global and Türk Traktör collaborate on commissioning emergency scenarios with the same IoT devices.
