The 2019 Parapan American Games is an international multi-sport event for athletes with disabilities governed by the Americas Paralympic Committee. Peru’s main airport Jorge Chavez International Airport was hosting the participating athletes during their travels, and Lima Airport Partners (LAP), the company that operates Jorge Chavez, wanted to facilitate wayfinding and discovery in the facilities for the 1970 athletes with visual or auditory impairments with an accessible navigation tool as an assistive solution.
An Independent Visitor Journey With No Boundaries With Assistive Technology
With the assistance and feedback of Yo Soy Sus Ojos, a Lima-based association for visually impaired athletes, Boni Global developed an accessible navigation application called Sígueme Lima Airport App using precise indoor positioning and wayfinding technologies. The digital twin of the airport terminal was created and the application was used to assist travelers with visual impairments navigate the facilities and easily find their POI with a specially designed interface that provides voice guidance. Using the application easily accessed from their smartphones, athletes were able to move independently through the terminal, comfortably access all amenities and service providers and enjoy a seamless journey in the airport.
